TED Talks: Yochai Benkler on Open-Source Economics

I just stumbled upon a great TED talk by Professor Yochai Benkler, on the transformative power of open-source and networks on societies and economies. His view of the future of economics bodes well for Drupal and the people & shops (like this one) that build sites using it.

I'm not sure how I've never heard of Benkler, but I just ordered his book (which is open source, of course)!

Social production

I too am a big fan of his work. I watched his Ted talk and I am making my way through his book.

For any who has ever had to answer the question "Why don't the Drupal developers just do foo?" I think his chapter on Social production is particularly interesting and relevant.

The Wealth of Networks is a

The Wealth of Networks is a great book (though it's huge). Some time ago I read an article of his called "Coase's Penguin" that was also very good, and IIRC touched on some of the main themes in WoN. It was published in Yale Law Journal around 2002, but I'm almost positive it was recently reprinted in a book on Open Source theory.

Coase's Penguin

Thanks for the pointer! Here's a link to the book:
