Designing and building a new program website that showcases how CRISPR gene editing technology is being used to find a permanent cure for HIV

CRISPR for Cure (C4C) Collaboratory in association with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, aims to advance the understanding and application of CRISPR gene editing technology in pursuit of a cure for HIV. C4C is unique for its focus on gene editing technologies to both modify immune cells to enhance their activities and to directly target the HIV provirus itself. By harnessing the power of CRISPR, the project seeks to develop innovative therapies and strategies that can eliminate HIV reservoirs within the human body, effectively eradicating the virus and offering new hope to millions of people living with the condition.

Bringing a complex medical research program to life through an engaging and interactive design

The CRISPR for Cure website initiative, led by a project team from Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, hired Zivtech to design and build a new website to communicate their mission, promote collaboration, and share their research progress. The project's main objective was to communicate the organization's value to key audiences, including researchers and the broader HIV community. The new website needed to allow users to quickly find relevant publications, resources created by other Collaboratories, and information about C4C’s mission and program goals. Temple University chose Zivtech due to their breadth of experience designing user-friendly websites for public health and research institutions, as well as their fluency in WordPress.

The new website served as a launchpad for the research program’s brand identity and communication strategy

Zivtech worked closely with the project team at Temple University and research program stakeholders to identify user insights that informed the new website's design strategy and information architecture. The overall design and navigational approach aimed to empower editors with intuitive tools to efficiently manage content and site components. The site was built with flexibility, maintainability, and extensibility in mind, ensuring it could adapt to future needs. Zivtech created a new program brand and visual identity as part of the website design process, including a program logo. Zivtech built the website to meet SEO best practices ensuring findability and searchability. The project adhered to rigorous standards for security, performance, and accessibility, creating a safe and optimal experience for all users.
